Educational Programs & Farm Excursions

Where learning comes to life 🍓

At Berrylicious Strawberries, we believe that some of the most memorable learning experiences happen when children can see, touch, question, investigate, and experience the world around them.

Our farm excursions combine hands-on learning, agriculture, sustainability, food production and the natural environment within a real working strawberry farm in Buxton, NSW.

Programs can be curated for Early Years, Primary and Secondary students, as well as homeschool groups, with experiences adapted to the age, developmental stage and learning objectives of each group.

Curriculum-Linked Learning

Our school programs can be designed to support learning within the NSW curriculum rather than offering schools a one-size-fits-all excursion.

We can work directly with teachers and educators before the excursion to understand what students are currently learning and identify opportunities to connect their classroom work with experiences on the farm.

Depending on the needs of your class, learning experiences may incorporate areas such as Science and Technology, Mathematics, Geography, sustainability, food production, agriculture, living things, plant life cycles, pollination, weather, measurement, data collection, environmental responsibility and healthy food choices.

Have a particular topic, unit or curriculum outcome you’re working towards? Talk to us.Wherever practical, we can work with your teaching team to curate elements of the visit around your students’ current learning.

Early Years

For our youngest visitors, learning is active, sensory and discovery-based.

With a strong understanding of child development and early childhood education, our Early Years experiences encourage children to investigate the natural world through observation, conversation, movement and hands-on experiences.

Children can explore where food comes from, how strawberries grow, plants and animals, insects and pollinators, caring for our environment, healthy food choices and the changing seasons.

Programs can be developed with consideration of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the developmental needs and interests of young children.

Primary School

Primary students can take their classroom learning into a real-world environment.

Depending on the learning focus, students may investigate plant growth, strawberry production, pollination, ecosystems, sustainability, measurement, farm technology, food journeys and the relationship between people, agriculture and the environment.

Activities can be adapted across different primary stages, allowing teachers to select a program appropriate to their students and current learning.

Secondary School

For secondary students, the farm provides opportunities to explore more complex questions surrounding agriculture, science, geography, sustainability, technology, mathematics, food systems, business and environmental management.

As Berrylicious is a working commercial farm, students can see that agriculture involves much more than growing plants. It brings together science, environmental decision-making, technology, production, logistics, business and an understanding of the land.

Where appropriate, we can discuss your curriculum requirements beforehand and develop an experience that complements the work already happening in the classroom.

Homeschool Groups

Homeschool families and learning communities are very welcome at Berrylicious.

Programs can be structured for mixed-age groups, allowing children to explore similar concepts at different levels of complexity. We can also work with homeschool coordinators and parents to identify particular areas of learning they would like incorporated into their visit.

Learning Beyond the Excursion

We want the learning to continue after students leave the farm.

Learning materials can be arranged for students to take home, giving them something meaningful to remember their Berrylicious experience and opportunities to continue exploring what they discovered.

Teachers can also be provided with supporting educational resources and follow-up learning materials to extend concepts from the farm back into the classroom.

Please discuss your requirements with us when arranging your excursion so we can determine the most appropriate resources for your group.

Designed by an Educator

Education is an important part of the vision behind Berrylicious.

Berrylicious owner Victoria Bar Shalom (B.Ed) brings her professional experience and understanding of education, child development and how children learn to the development of our farm programs.

That educational background is combined with a genuine love of the land, agriculture and the natural environment.

Our aim isn’t simply to tell children how a strawberry grows. We want them to become curious about where their food comes from, what plants need to survive, the role of insects and pollinators, how farmers work with the environment, why sustainability matters and how the choices we make can contribute to healthier people and a healthier planet.

Most importantly, we want children to leave the farm having experienced their learning.

Bringing a Large Group?

Berrylicious has dedicated space for groups to gather, learn, eat and take a break during their excursion.

Our existing group area can comfortably accommodate up to 50 children, with additional seating and space able to be arranged for larger groups. Additional costs may apply where extra seating, equipment or setup is required.

There is ample on-site parking for large buses, making arrival and departure straightforward for schools and organised groups.

We can discuss group numbers, accessibility requirements, timing, learning objectives and practical arrangements with your school or organisation before your visit.

Plan an Excursion to Berrylicious 🍓

Whether you’re an Early Childhood service, Primary School, Secondary School or homeschool community, we’d love to help create an excursion that is relevant to what your students are learning.

Tell us the ages or year levels, number of students, curriculum area or topic you’re currently exploring and any particular learning or accessibility requirements.

From there, we can work with you to create a Berrylicious farm experience that brings classroom learning into the real world.

Learn it. See it. Touch it. Grow it.
